5 Types of Women's Swim Suits

Swimsuits are items of apparel primarily designed to be worn during a water-related activity, including swimming, surfing and diving, or other water-oriented activities, like sunbathing. These are generally made of synthetic materials that allow the user to "breathe" comfortably while at the same time maintain an upright posture. A variety of swimsuits may be worn both by women and men, though women's swimsuits tend to be more revealing and often cover much more of their body than men's swimsuits. Children's swimsuits are also designed to cover much less of their body than adult swimsuits do. Regardless of the type of swimsuit an individual wears, there is generally a common theme among swimsuits that give them a common identifying feature.

The first type of swimsuit to catch the attention of anyone who is looking for swimsuits is the bikinis. Bikinis are typically worn as a form of competitive swimming attire, though some may use them for other non-sport related activities such as summer camps or concerts. Bikinis generally cover the top of the body with a small mesh net. Some bikinis, such as the ones made by Victoria's Secret and Delta Burke have straps that are used to hold on to the upper body. Bikinis are one of the most popular swimsuits worn both by men and women today.

Another type of swimsuit that is commonly worn is the bikini bottom. Like bikinis, bikini bottoms are available in many different designs, allowing a person to choose a suit that fits properly. A bikini bottom is almost always worn during water-related activities, though they may also be used during other activities that are not so related to swimming. A bikini bottom is designed to cover the buttocks and the stomach area. The net effect of the outfit makes it appear that there is a thin layer of skin over the exposed areas of the body. Most people who wear bikinis and hot shorts are often seen wearing a bikini bottom underneath their swimsuits, though some may not wear a bikinis or hot shorts.

A third type of swimsuit that is common among women who attend summertime concerts, beach parties or any other activity where there may be lots of body movement is a tank top. Tank tops are generally considered to be one piece swimsuits, since they do not offer any style or flexibility by way of straps or mesh fabric. Tank tops are worn mostly by slim women with the goal being to flatten the chest area.

The fourth type of swimsuit is the string bikini. This is perhaps the most versatile of all swimsuits, in terms of style. It can come as a pair of shorts, a halter top and/or as a tank top. String bikinis are most commonly used as a style statement at parties and various social events. One of the main reasons for the popularity of the string bikini is that it is very comfortable to wear, since there are no straps or mesh fabric that could possibly catch on things. Because of this, string bikinis are also an ideal choice for women who do not like wearing bikinis.

Finally, the fifth type of swimsuits is the one-piece suit. A one-piece suit does not have one single fabric but rather, has several pieces. These pieces are usually fitted in such a way that they cover the whole body except for the bottoms. These suits are great for women who prefer to flatten their chests (which may be achieved through a bikini) and are less concerned about coverage than those who want to emphasize a nice, smooth stomach.
