Impotence

The word impotence is commonly used to describe difficulties which hinder sexual intercourse or it may be a loss of sexual desire or problems related to ejaculation or orgasm. Impotence is more likely to occur if a person has a poor diet and consumes too much alcohol. A healthy diet is essential for proper blood circulation and nutrition. A healthy diet does not necessarily mean a low-fat diet. Low-fat and low-cholesterol diets are highly recommended for healthy blood circulation. Therefore, a low-fat and low-cholesterol diet is essential to achieving and maintaining erections and for preventing impotence.

Men who smoke have an increased risk of impotence because smoking reduces blood flow to the penis. Both smoking and alcohol use are highly associated with other psychological factors and both are strongly associated with increased blood flow to the genitals. Additionally, these substances cause unhealthy arteriosclerosis in arteries surrounding the genitals, which decreases blood flow to the genitals. This, in turn, reduces sexual desire, can lead to impotence.

Impotence can have many causes and can also be treated. Psychological risk factors are usually difficult to change, although changes in lifestyle can often help. A healthy diet and regular exercise can improve circulation and increase the amount of oxygen reaching the tissues. A healthy and active sex life can boost libido and improve blood flow to the genitals. These changes can reduce or eliminate the need for sexual therapy and prescription drugs.
